Clonmacnoise

The monastery of Clonmacnoise at sunset. It is located on the River Shannon, as the river meanders
through the callows (flood plains) south of Athlone. It was founded by St.
Ciarán in 544, a little over a century after St. Patrick arrived in Ireland to convert the
pagan Irish.

Gorgeous photo (is it your own?) that goes some way toward capturing the unque atmosphere of the place. And of course Swim-Two-Birds is just over the river a ways.

all the snaps on the site are my own - for better or for worse. It's a beautiful spot. I arrived just as the sun was setting, about a month ago - there wasn't a soul around.
